“Lion Salt Works provides high quality opportunities to learn about the salt industry and its impact on the local community, economy and the environment through activities that promote enquiry and discovery. The key object is the salt works itself and experienced and talented learning staff bring this object to life through a creative and effective programme of interactive tours and workshops.”

About us
We have an experienced Learning Team, a handling collection of high quality artefacts and dedicated education spaces within the museum to offer a hands-on approach to all our sessions. Whilst visiting Lion Salt Works all children will meet a character from the past, handle historical objects and complete a range of engaging, practical activities.
Ratios
We ask for a ratio of 1:7 for Key Stage 1 and 1:10 for Key Stage 2. The adult helpers accompanying a trip should be prepared to encourage children’s’ learning and are admitted free of charge. Please discuss with us if you would like to bring extra adults.
Special Educational Needs
Please let us know if there are any children with mobility issues, or other special educational needs, so we can tailor our workshops accordingly.
Timings
Our full day workshops typically run from 10.30am to 2.30pm. We are very flexible and we can start a little later, or finish a little earlier if your transport requires this. We’re well used to doing this and ensure that all of the key activities and learning objectives are covered so you still get the full experience.
