Harry the Innkeeper Tour

1 February 2017 - 31 July 2020
All students meet the Red Lion Innkeeper, Harry, who will show you around this Scheduled Ancient Monument. Discover how salt was produced and the horrific conditions that workers endured, before exploring our gallery space. In the afternoon take part in one of our education sessions. All tours and sessions are tailored to meet the needs of your year group.                

KS1 Adventurers: Habitats

28 February 2017 - 28 February 2020
Explorer hats and magnifying glasses at the ready. Through hands-on activities and a bug hunt in our butterfly garden, children will discover the plants and animals who call the Lion Salt Works home. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour.              

KS1 Adventurers: Local History

Join us on an adventure into the past. Handling real and replica objects, children will uncover the history of the Lion Salt Works, its workers and the local area. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour.            

KS2 Detectives: History

Come and take a journey exploring how salt has been used in our food for over 4000 years. Through a series of engaging activities, children will learn about salt and its use in food from pre-history, up until the industrial revolution. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour                

KS2 Detectives: Science

28 February 2017 - 28 February 2020
Put on your lab coats, goggles and discover the science behind Lion Salt Works. Children will become scientists through a series of hands on mini experiments, exploring how salt was made at the Salt Works. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour.                

KS2 Detectives: Geography

28 February 2017 - 28 February 2020
Help us hunt for clues about the Lion Salt Works past. Using aerial photos, modern and historic maps and the Salt Works itself, children will identify and investigate key geographical features within the landscape. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour.            

KS2 Detectives: Local History

28 February 2017 - 28 February 2020
Take a step back in time, meet the Editor of the Northwich Times Newspaper and solve a mystery perplexing the local press. Children will become journalists, discovering the impact that the salt industry has had on people, transport and the environment. *This session is accompanied by the Harry the Innkeeper Tour.

Much Ado Workshops: A Two Day Promenade Performance Project for KS2

28 February 2017 - 28 February 2020
After taking a tour around our unique site, children will use the knowledge and understanding they’ve gained to devise their own drama, sound and dance pieces. These pieces bring history to life and are incorporated into a unique and inspiring performance at the end of the two days.
